Beaufort, in the Müllerthal region, is one of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg's tourist magnets. The premier attraction here is a ruined eleventh-century fortress. The Renaissance-style manor house (Schloss) from 1648 and the neo-Gothic church built in 1852 are both in the town centre. Beaufort has its own slice of nightlife in the form of the Flying Dutchman club. A bed for the night and a meal can be found at Hostelling International (HI) Beaufort, a youth hostel in an idyllic spot. The kirsch and cassis distilled in Beaufort are counted as local specialities of the so-called Little Switzerland of Luxembourg. It is well worth going for walks in the rocky scenery with its gorges and plateaux, paddling a canoe along the Sauer, or cycling along the Sauer Valley or to Vianden.
