Dudelange is one of Luxembourg's most important centres of industry. The town, on the French border, has around 18,300 inhabitants and is located halfway between Luxembourg City and Thionville. Dudelange is made up of nine quarters: Bireng, Butschebuerg, Brill, Gaffelt, Quartier Italien, Ribeschpont, Wolkeschdahl, Schmelz and Deich. The town boasts numerous attractions, including the burdock garden at Park Le'h; Haard Nature Park; Johannesberg fortress; the Arbed factory site; the National Audiovisual Centre; the neo-Gothic St. Martin's Church; and the 285-metre (935-ft) RTL Broadcasting Tower. The tower hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 1981, when it was struck by a Belgian military plane and collapsed, claiming the lives of the pilot and a couple living nearby. This town has a wealth of options for overnight stays and is 20 minutes away Luxembourg Airport.
