Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and has 750,000 inhabitants. This port city is connected to the sea by the North Sea Canal and is the country's economic and cultural centre. The city is world-famous for its canals, which dominate its image, along with the tall, narrow houses (grachtenpandjes).
