Chicago is located in the State of Illinois on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan. It is the third-largest city in the United States.
The “windy city,” named for strong winds that can sometimes blow here, is famous for its theatre. When you visit, don’t miss the Adler Planetarium and the Museum of Astronomy, where exhibits about space and the planets abound. The Art Institute of Chicago is a museum and an art university in one. It has many masterpieces on display, especially of American Impressionists and American artists like Edward Hopper and Grant Woods.
Buildings: the tallest building is the Willis Tower, followed by the Trump International Hotel and Tower.
Parks: Grant Park, Lincoln Park (including a Zoological Garden), and the Brockfield Zoo.
Shopping: department stores worth a visit include the Carson Pirie Scott department store (1 South State Street), and (two blocks north of this) one of the world’s oldest and largest department stores, Marshall Fields. Another must-see is the Magnificent Mile, where you’ll find other department stores and shops as well. Water Tower Place – a shopping mall with 100 shops distributed over seven stories – is one of the oldest of its kind as well.
