New York City, the international urban centre on the east coast of America, is the largest city in the USA with more than eight million inhabitants. It is made up of five “Burroughs” – Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Visitors to the city will find a lot of landmarks, galleries and museums, theatres and more than 18,000 restaurants. Must-sees when you’re in New York are the Empire State Building – since the 9/11 attacks the tallest building in the city at 381 meters high – and of course the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island. If you love culture, you’ll love the Metropolitan Museum (Moma) and the Guggenheim Museum, and to take a break from it all there’s the New York Public Library, Central Park or Battery Park. Do you like shopping? Then a huge selection awaits you at the city’s famous department stores – Bloomingdales, Macys and Saks – and there are many malls and outlet stores as well.
