Basel (French: Bâle) is Switzerland's third-largest city, with over 170,000 inhabitants and an area of approx. 37km2 (14 sq. miles). It is the Swiss cultural capital: Art Basel, for instance, is the world's most important art show for contemporary work. Basel boasts over 40 museums and 25 stages in theatres small and large.
