Capital of the Swiss canton that bears its name, Fribourg has around 35,000 residents. Of all Swiss cities, it is Fribourg that possesses the largest and best-preserved mediaeval old town, whose attractions include the Cathedral of St Nicolas, the city wall and the Castle Quarter.
