Sankt Moritz

Situated in the canton of Graubünden (Grisons), St Moritz is one of the world's most famous holiday destinations. The town, at an elevation of 1,856m (6,090ft), nestles in the Upper Engadin lakeland (Oberengadiner Seenlandschaft).

There is a plethora of choice for overnight stays in hotels, guesthouses (Pensionen) or holiday apartments. Consistent with the town's glamourous cachet, there are plenty of luxury five-star hotels. By way of alternative, a stay full of local earthiness can be had in one of the many mountain huts, which often serve as rest stops on mountaineering or skiing tours. Shopping connoisseurs will find that the wares on offer at this holiday resort are anything but average. Via Serlas is the street where household-name designers' boutiques alternate with jewellers and high-end designer furniture stores. The small side-streets, on the other hand, are for the gourmet, with small establishments offering regional specialities such as Nut Tart (Engadiner Nusstorte) and outstanding cheeses and bacons.
